Top 20 Largest Carnivorous Dinosaurs
The research reveals that Spinosaurus was the largest carnivorous dinosaur, with estimates ranging from 15 to 18 meters in length and weighing between 7 to 20 tons. This semi-aquatic predator from North Africa holds the title as the biggest meat-eating dinosaur discovered to date. Following closely are Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex, both measuring approximately 12-13 meters in length, with T. rex being heavier at 8-9 tons compared to Giganotosaurus's 6-8 tons.
The top 20 list includes several other massive predators from different geological periods and continents. Carcharodontosaurus from Africa and Mapusaurus from South America both reached similar sizes of 12-13 meters. Acrocanthosaurus, known for its distinctive high spines, measured 11-12 meters. The Jurassic period was represented by Torvosaurus and Allosaurus, both around 10-11 meters long. Smaller but still formidable predators like Carnotaurus (7-8 meters) and Majungasaurus (6-8 meters) round out the list, demonstrating the wide range of sizes among carnivorous dinosaurs throughout the Mesozoic Era.
